Brief Biography:

Kathy O'Loughlin

I grew up in the Midlands before going to Manchester to study for a BSc in Speech Pathology and Therapy. I worked as a Speech and Language Therapist for seven years in the area of pre school special needs as a practitioner before becoming taking on the management role I then took a “career break” while I had three children and and so work had to fit in with family life. I became a dinner lady for a while and a playgroup assistant before taking on some part time Speech and language Therapy work . I became a student at STETS in 1996 and was ordained as an Anglican priest in the Winchester Diocese. I worked as an NSM in my home parish where I was particularly interested in setting up community projects which might now be called “Fresh Expressions”. After a short spell in Chaplaincy (workplace and hospice) I joined the STETS staff.

I have recently completed a Masters Degree in The Rhetoric and Rituals of Death at Winchester University This has reminded me how part time study alongside work can be very demanding as well as enriching – a challenge to the juggling skills that STETS students need to develop! I am house-for-duty parish priest for the villages of Long Sutton and South Warnborough, part of the North Hampshire Downs Benefice.Having two jobs can be hair-raising at times but the roles inform one another well.

Since ordination have become particularly interested in Non Stipendiary ministries and exploring what it means to be a priest in different contexts such as the workplace or community and among people who have only slender links with the established Church.

Other interests include writing for performance for amateur theatre groups; walking and being with friends.
